Weekly Announcements - For Sunday, March 14, 2010
SUNDAY SERVICES – 10:00 & 11:30 a.m.
Planning a Memorial Service, Rev. Jennie Barrington
We will all have the need to plan a memorial service at some point in our lives, for a family member or
close friend. This service is about ways to ensure the commemoration of a person’s life is the best
tribute it can be, by having conversations well before tragedy strikes. We will have information available
to give you guidance for when this need arises.

JOYS AND CONCERNS
Alice Rabson has moved in with her daughter Ann. We are thinking of her affectionately and hoping she
is doing well. She would welcome cards letting her know that we are thinking of her and miss seeing
her. Please contact the Fellowship office for contact information.
Selena, Eric, and Anna are delighted with the arrival of baby Cole, but they could use your help. Because
of complications of her childbirth, Selena is confined to 5 weeks of bedrest. UUFF members and
friends have been assisting with food and helping Selena for a couple hours various days. If you can
assist, contact Diane Elstein of the Sunshine Committee.
I'd like to thank everyone for the lovely flowers, visits, cards, and food that we received while I was in the
hospital and recovering from a little heart episode and pneumonia. I really appreciated all the kindness
flowing from our UU community! Thanks so much! Pat Wall
Rev. Jennie has two joys to share-- On March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day), her cat, Sidney, will be fifteen
years old! Cards and gifts of catnip would be welcomed by him. His health is very good, and his mood
is very bossy. Also, as of March 1st, Rev. Jennie has been a professional Unitarian Universalist minster
for ten years, consistently and enjoyably. She is honored to be beginning her second decade of ministry
here at UUFF. And she is very excited about all the positive things flourishing in the Fellowship at this
time, including forward movement on the New Building Project, the good fruit Stewardship Campaign is
bearing, the upcoming Listening Circles given by the Board, the very productive Mid-Point Appraisal of
the Interim Period just completed by the Board, the new “Life Preservers” group focused on care giving
and end-of-life issues, the Coming Of Age Programming for our teens, the exquisite music we enjoy on
Sunday mornings, the earnest conversation in the Sunday Discussion Group, the assistance to people
in need provided through the Community Action and Social Justice committees, the compassionate
listening during the Community Circles, the stimulating guest speakers the Sunday Services Committee
provides, the beautiful newsletter Maryann produces each month, and the new UUFF quilt project,
conceived by Kira Bush, and being coordinated by Marina Cherry.
With pure delight and super-congratulations, we announce the birth of Nicholas [Cole] Odin Hagstrom.
He was born at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Stafford Hospital; seven pounds, thirteen
ounces. Mom, Selena; Dad, Erick; and Big Sister Anna are all well and happy.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
AT YOUR SERVICE AUCTION
Join us on Saturday, April 17 beginning at 6 pm in the Fellowship hall for an opportunity to bid on great
items and services. Socialize with friends, enjoy light refreshments, and bid on silent auction items
from 6-7 pm. Our live auction begins at 7 pm. Our auction offerings are designed to spice up your life,
spruce up your house, and build up your skills with practical, whimsical, tasty, entertaining, adventurous,
time-saving, handy, and creative items. Auction paddles are $5 per family, but you don’t need to bid to
enjoy this popular fundraising event. Babysitting is available for children under 12 by advance
reservation only. Contributions of finger foods and desserts for our buffet are most appreciated.
To make an auction donation, use the auction forms available online, at the Fellowship, or by email from
uuff@verizon.net. Our catalog deadline is April 4, so that we can have the catalog available prior to the
event. Contributions too late to make our catalog are still welcome, and will appear in our supplement
available on auction night. To submit the online form via email, save the file to your desktop, fill it out,
save it again, and then attach it to an email to uuff@verizon.net. You can also send forms to UUFF, 5044
Plank Rd., Fredericksburg, VA 22407 or place forms in the auction envelope in the rear of the Fellowship
hall.
WHEN YOUR U.S. CENSUS FORM arrives in the mail in mid-March, please fill it out and mail it back
promptly. It’s only 10 questions this year. Census participation is important, to ensure that our local
area gets its share of an estimated $400 billion in federal funds for uses such as schools, road
construction and maintenance, public transportation, Head Start, food stamps and programs for the
elderly. In addition, both state and local voting district boundaries will be redrawn based on the census.
